Accounts and employees: two different numbers
Microsoft 365 counts every account that can sign in. Your company counts people. ECP keeps both, because the checks that protect you need both.
Why there are two numbers
- Accounts (in Dutch: Accounts): every account in Microsoft 365, including shared mailboxes such as info@, service accounts and admin accounts. Hackers try every one of them, so the sign-in and access checks (two-step sign-in, admin rights, access reviews) count all accounts. The screen shows what Microsoft 365 sees, for example "Microsoft 365 ziet 122 actieve accounts".
- Employees (in Dutch: Medewerkers): the people who work for you. Training and documents everyone must read ("Gelezen en begrepen") count people, not mailboxes.
You do not need to complete or clean up the registers to fix a difference between the two. Confirm both numbers instead.
Where to confirm
- Open Klant (Client) in the left menu.
- Open the tab Opgegeven omgeving (Declared environment).
- Under Accounts, enter how many accounts you have. The line below shows how many Microsoft 365 sees.
- Under Medewerkers, choose Aantal invullen (enter a number) or Leden van een groep uit Microsoft 365 (members of a Microsoft 365 group) and pick the group.
- Click Bevestigen (Confirm).
Let a Microsoft 365 group define your employees
If your Microsoft 365 has a group with all staff (for example "Alle medewerkers"), pick it under Medewerkers. The list shows each group with its number of members. From then on the employee count follows that group on every sync: new people are counted, people who leave drop out. Training and read confirmations then count only the members of that group. A group member without an ECP account is still counted, and shows as "Nog geen account in de app".
No groups in the list? Microsoft 365 has not synced any groups yet. Enter the number instead.
Who can confirm
Owners, admins and members who may manage entities (members can by default) can confirm. A read-only account cannot. If your account may not, the button is greyed out and the screen names the owners and admins to ask: they can confirm it themselves or give your account more rights.
